Who Is Tom Young?
Tom Young is a family man. First and foremost, Tom Young shares our conservative family values. He always puts his wife Heather and daughters Hailey (5) and Ashley (20 months) above all else. He is pro-life and believes that families are the foundation of our community. He is an active member of St. John’s Methodist Church and he volunteers as an attorney for Millbrook Baptist Church. Tom is close to his parents – Tom and Delly Young of Aiken – and his brother’s family – Bryan, Casey and Granger Young of Aiken.
Tom Young is an Aiken County native. Born and raised in Aiken, Tom graduated from Aiken High and the University of South Carolina where he was student body president at both schools. Tom turned down offers to move to other communities and instead chose to return to Aiken to start his family and business. He currently serves on the boards of the Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce, Aiken County Dollars for Scholars (past chair), Children’s Place (current chair) , and the USC Aiken Partnership (current vice chair).
Tom Young is a conservative. Tom is a low-taxes, small government, home rule true conservative. Passionate about public service and making our community a better place to live, Tom knows that conservative ideals will progress our region.
Tom Young is a reformer. Tom believes that state government is broken. Taxes are too high and the state budget is exploding. He knows that we can create jobs and progress education when we revise our tax code, cap spending, restructure government, and support teachers and new education initiatives.
Tom Young is a businessman. Tom is a local attorney and small businessman. He knows how hard it is to keep the doors open, make payroll, and give employees quality health insurance coverage. It’s tough. And government isn’t making it any easier. As our Representative, Tom will work hard to support Aiken’s small business and industry.
Tom Young is a bridge builder. Tom believes that government will move forward when politicians quit playing games and all work together toward a common goal. He knows that President Ronald Reagan and Governor Carroll Campbell were successful because they were able to build a consensus amongst people with differing views. As our next State House representative, Tom will work to build bridges and not tear them down.
Tom Young is honest and hardworking. Tom believes it’s time to put integrity back into politics. That starts with hard work. He promises never to betray your trust and to make hard work and constituent service his top priorities. Tom will never compromise his principles for momentary success.
Tom Young is a leader. From the time that Tom was in high school, he has been a leader in everything that he has done. From being Student Body President of both Aiken High School and the University of South Carolina to serving as chair of numerous boards and committees in both Columbia and Aiken, Tom knows that strong leaders must be able to listen to all concerns, build a consensus, form a plan, and then put that plan into action. Tom has the leadership abilities that we need representing us in the State House.
